Canal Road is an Australian television drama series that airs on the Nine Network. The series was produced in-house by Susan Bower, with writers Sarah Smith, John Ridley, and Dave Warner, and directed by Kevin Carlin. It was shot on location in and around Melbourne as well as in Channel Nine's GTV Studio 11. The series is said to have cost A$10 million to produce. The 13-part series premiered on April16, 2008. The sitcom debuted to mediocre reviews and merely average ratings, which were eroded further when it was moved to a later timeslot. Canal Road was dropped off Nine's schedule after the seventh episode, which received only 360,000 views; nonetheless, the eighth episode was made available online. The remaining episodes were broadcast on Nine between August and December 2008. Canal Road was released on DVD in Australia on August4, 2008.
