Martin Freeman is love-lorn teacher Mr Maddens, an former am-dram celebrity whose girlfriend (Ashley Jensen) dumped him Christmas five decades ago and upped sticks, inexplicably, to La-La Land. Yuletide cheer isn't his forte, but he has made to drum up some when Pam Ferris's headmistress earmarks him to direct the Nativity play .
