San Francisco banker Nicholas Van Orton, a cold hearted loner and a financial genius, receives an odd gift from his brother, Conrad : a gift certificate to engage in with a sort of game. In not quite a nanosecond, Nicholas finds himself absorbed by a dangerous group of rules that are ever-changing, unable to distinguish where the ends and reality begins.
