Subsequent to the parents of Ruby and her younger brother, Rhett, are murdered in a car accident, their parents' best friends, Erin and Terry Glass, become their guardians. The youngsters hear asserts of a world of California and opulence interesting is proceed into the Glasses' gated residence. Before long, though, Ruby supposes that Erin and Terry might well not be the ideal guardians they looked to become.
