Overview
The flicks is really just a picture review television program produced by Disney ABC Domestic Television in which two film critics shared their opinions of films. The program aired under various titles. Its initial hosts were WLS-TV and Gene Siskel of WBBM-TV and also the Chicago Tribune and Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times. After Siskel died in 1999, richard Roeper of the Sun-Times became Ebert partner in 2000.
Ebert suspended his looks in 2006 for treatment of thyroid gland, with guest hosts substituting for him. From April to August 2008, Michael Phillips of the Chicago Tribune cohosted. Starting on September 6, 2008, E! Entertainment Television film critic and writer Ben Lyons and Sirius Satellite Radio host and former co-host of this Young Turks and current Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz happened over as hosts. About August 5, 2009, it was announced that Michael Phillips will come back to the series along with New York Times film critic A. O. Scott on September 5, 2009.
During its run by Siskel and Ebert as hosts, the series was nominated seven times and additionally for Outstanding Information Series. It was widely known for the"thumbs up/thumbs down" inspection summaries awarded throughout Siskel's and Ebert's tenures. The series aired in syndication from the USA and on CTV in Canada. The show also aired through the entire week.
